Beginning the New Year

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.
Any fool can do it,
There ain't nothin to it.
Nobody knows how we got to the top of the hill,
But since we're on our way down,
We might as well enjoy the ride.
The secret of love is in opening up your heart.
It's ok to feel afraid,
But don't let it stand in your way.
Everyone knows that love is the only road.
And since we're only here for a while,
We might as well show some style.
Give us a smile now.
Isn't it a lovely ride?
Sliding down and gliding down,
Try not to try too hard,
It's just a lovely ride.

Now the thing about time is that time isn't really real.
It's all on your point of view.
How does it feel for you?
Einstein said that he could never understand it all.
Planets spinning thru space,
The smile upon your face.
Welcome to the human race.
Isn't that a lovely ride?
Sliding down and gliding down,
Try not to try too hard,
It's just a lovely ride.
Isn't that a lovely ride?
See me sliding down and gliding down.
Try not to try too hard,
It's just a lovely ride.
Now the secret of life is enjoying the passage of time...

I began this new year with a trip to the doctor's office. Having been sick for five days, I decided to give in and go to the doctor. I have sinusitis and bronchitis. What a great way to start the year, huh? But it did give me a chance to read a lot and plan my first post for this new blog. The photo above was taken with no flash in northern natural light and I learned how to use my digital filter on my camera to save it as a new B & W file. I am making notations for the exposures in a notebook as an experiment in learning exposure. I have my first photo as one of my husband's little iPod shuffle because I've been listening to music a lot while I've been sick on the couch and I thought these lyrics from a song by James Taylor exemplify a good attitude to have beginning the year that I turn 60. So I wrote the lyrics below the photo. Little sentimentality going on here.

  1. Awesome photo AND sentiment to start the year. So good you're making notes on your journey. It'll help in reflecting back and planning forward. This is exciting!

Good you went to the doctor. Rest, enjoy the ride and get well soon! :)

  2. You should read some of McMama's stuff (you can link her from my blog...you will get addicted to her blog, believe me). She is a professional photographer and she gives tips sometimes on what she does. I am interested in photography, too. Maybe I will be able to get the camera I want this year and start playing around with it. Happy New Year!
